Versions and going live: Draft, Test and Live

Quick answer

Agent Studio keeps one editable draft per agent plus numbered versions that never change. Press Save version to freeze a checkpoint, review what changed, use Restore to draft to roll back, and Promote to Test then Promote to Live to ship. Live always runs the exact version you approved, so customers never meet a half-finished edit.

What you'll have

  • A numbered, frozen checkpoint for every change worth keeping
  • A clear Draft, Test and Live path so only tested work reaches customers
  • One-click rollback whenever an edit goes sideways

How do versions work in Agent Studio?#

Every agent has a draft you edit freely and a ledger of saved versions: v1, v2, v3, newest first. A saved version is immutable. It carries your label, the time you saved it, and a count of pins when it depends on a specific version of a subflow. Saving the exact same graph twice hands back the existing version instead of making a duplicate, so the ledger stays clean.

How do I save and compare a version?#

Save a checkpoint and see what changed

0 of 4 done

  1. Step 1: Open the agent

Pick the agent from your dashboard and open it on the canvas.
    Open your agents
  2. Step 2: Press Save version

Open the Versions panel and press Save version. The new version appears at the top of the ledger with its number and time.
  3. Step 3: Review any version

Select a version row to open Review. It compares that version with the one before it and counts what was added, removed and changed, step by step and field by field.
  4. Step 4: Spot layout-only edits

Moved cards around without changing behavior? The review says Layout-only change, so you know nothing about how the agent runs is different.

How do I roll back to an earlier version?#

Open the version in Review and press Restore to draft. That version goes back onto the canvas as your draft. Changed your mind? Undo brings your previous draft straight back. Rolling back the draft never touches what is running in Test or Live.

How do I promote a version from Test to Live?#

Promote it to Test, run it, then confirm it for Live. Live only accepts the version that is active in Test, so what customers get is always something you already ran.

Ship a version safely

0 of 4 done

  1. Step 1: Promote to Test

In Review, press Promote to Test. Promotion points Test at that exact version; it does not run anything by itself.
  2. Step 2: Run your tests

Run free dry runs, then a few passes with Run for real to check real model output. See Test your agent free.
  3. Step 3: Confirm for Live

Open the same version in Review, type PROMOTE LIVE in the confirmation box, and press Promote to Live.
  4. Step 4: Watch the first runs

Live runs land in your run history with every step's result and cost. See Runs and history.

Does saving a version cost anything or change my live agent?#

No on both counts. Saving a version never deploys, launches, runs a model or calls an outside app. It is a free checkpoint. Only a promotion to Live changes what customers get.

Developers see the same history in the Code view, which shows the latest saved version with its number, schema, full hash, semantic hash and dependency pins next to the draft source.

Questions buyers ask#

Does saving a version publish my agent?

No. Saving freezes a checkpoint and nothing else. Your agent reaches customers only when you promote a tested version to Live.

Can I edit a saved version?

Saved versions are frozen so your history stays trustworthy. To build on one, use Restore to draft, make your changes, and save them as a new version.

Can I manage versions on my phone?

You can read the full version history on your phone. Saving, restoring and promoting happen in Studio on a laptop or desktop, where the review has room to show every change.

What is the difference between the semantic hash and the full hash?

The semantic hash fingerprints what the agent does and ignores where cards sit on the canvas. The full hash fingerprints the whole saved graph, layout included. Together they tell you instantly whether two versions behave the same.

How is this different from publishing a GoHighLevel workflow?

A GoHighLevel workflow switches between Draft and Published. Agent Studio adds numbered, frozen versions and a separate Test stage, so the version you ship is one you already ran, and rollback is one click.
